Grendelcomment: No, Ben, Veritasium never attempts to
debunk this theory by saying, "this
couldn't possibly apply to the Earth because we don't have
the same dynamics and structure" or that "Earth is
symmetrical about our spinning axis." Is that just
made up or something? The claim Veritasium actually
makes, very specifically, is that the sloshing dissipation
of kinetic energy in the non-solid earth forces our planet
into the largest moment of inertia (end over end around our
fat equatorial bulge). This primary axis of
rotation is not the same thing as an
intermediate axis, which is required for flipping. . so nope
. . . no Earth flippin'. If earth rocks or if she
rolls, it won't be because of the Dzhanibekov twist, baby.
So yay that, I guess.
